In a Le Classique game against Marseille in March 2019, PSG were winning 3-1 courtesy of goals from both Mbappe and Di Maria (2).
Mbappe had opened the scoring and then after Valere Germain had levelled matters, Di Maria came up clutch with two goals inside 11 minutes.
For the second, the Argentine curled in a beautiful free-kick from around 30 yards out. Mbappe won a penalty with some trickery in the area and Di Maria expressed a lot of interest in taking it.
He was seen in conversation with his teammate, clearly hoping for the chance to complete a stunning hat-trick. Mbappe was not having it and wanted to add to his tally in the game.
The Frenchman then stepped up from 12 yards but saw his effort saved by Yohann Pele, who had been subbed on in goal after captain Steve Mandanda was sent off for handling outside his box.
Mbappe scored and also missed a spot-kick in PSG’s 5-2 win over Montpellier on Saturday. After his miss, the former Monaco man wanted the chance to redeem himself when the Ligue One champions were awarded a second penalty.
In a bid to resolve the issue, L’Equipe say manager Christophe Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos will sit down with both players.
